It is situated in a small, traditional Greek village close to the city of Heraklion, called Myrtia or Varnarie. It is the birth place of the famous author of "Zorba the Greek'" Nikos Kazantzakis. There is a museum dedicated to this great writer.

The beaches around there are very beautiful and well-organised. The countryside around is fantastic with the variety of landscapes.

The local people are very friendly and peaceful. There are shops and supermarkets close by. There are also tavernas, restaurants and cafes, as well as the traditional Greek "kafenion ".
